The hives antihistamines are usually drugs that counteract the effects of histamines that cause hives. However, the hives antihistamines do not treat the underlying cause of hives. They just provide temporary relief from the itching or burning sensation and are not considered to be a lasting cure. If you want to get rid of hives for good, you must solve the underlying problems as well.
When disturbed, mast cells release histamines into the skin. When these mast cells are triggered by certain stimuli, they release histamines into the adjacent area of the skin. These histamines then cause rashes, itching, burning sensations, swelling, and other problems according to the nature of the stimulus. These skin problems are called hives.

Loratadine For Hives
Loratadine is another drug used for treating hives and other allergies. It is closely associated to tricyclic antidepressants and distantly associated to the atypical antipsychotic quetiapine.
Over The Counter Antihistamines for Hives
Over-the-counter antihistamines for hives consist of various drugs that you can buy without a prescription. Usually, these antihistamines are of low potency and used for minor hives problems. If the condition persists or is aggravated, you should stop using the drug and contact a doctor.
