Angioedema Treatment – Idiopathic Angioedema Treatment

What are the Differences and Similarities Between Urticaria and Angioedema?

The two most feared diseases related to skin are undoubtedly urticaria and angioedema. Though there are many similarities between these two, there are some major differences between them. Certain symptoms, help in distinguishing between them, and can be beneficial in the urticaria treatment as well as angioedema treatment.

Let us first consider the differences: urticaria is on the dermis or upper layer of the skin, whereas angioedema is deep inside. Urticaria wheals are itchy while angioedema swelling is not itchy but can be painful in some cases. Angioedema can be deadly but urticaria does not threaten the patient’s life. As far as the similarities are concerned, both the disease have pretty similar triggers and causes e.g. allergies, pressure, stress, extreme temperatures. Their treatments are also similar to some extent.

Next weeks post will be about hives and dermographism with some amazing surprises.

Results of Recent Research and Facts about Angioedema – Invaluable for the Sufferer?

Angioedema treatment can be difficult, but it becomes more difficult if you do not know about the latest progress in this area. This blog will tell you about the latest research results about angioedema, so you can easily select the best course of action for treatment.a

The latest development in angioedema treatment is the approval by CSL Behring of a new medicine called Berinert which has been licensed in 30 countries. This is specifically formulated to stop  acute hereditary angioedema (HAE) attacks. Angioedema is more hazardous (and in some cases it can be deadly as well) as compared to hives or dermographism, therefore, you must pay serious attention if you develop the symptoms.

Idiopathic angioedema treatment is similar to that of normal angioedema treatment. However, as the causes are unknown in cases of idiopathic angioedema, treating it is more difficult.

If you think you may have  idiopathic angioedema treatment, have an allergy test done by a professional. Urine and blood tests are helpful in order to determine whether you have angioedema. If the results are positive, certain therapies or antihistamines can offer relief.

Hereditary Angioedema Treatment

Hereditary Angioedema Treatment is more difficult as compared to acquired Angioedema Treatment. In hereditary angioedema, triggers must be avoided, as the condition usually does not respond to epinephrine, antihistamines, or corticosteroids.

Finely tuned treatment is based on C1-INH concentrate from donor blood, which must be administered under medical supervision. In many European countries, C1-INH concentrate is not commonly available; therefore, fresh frozen blood plasma, which also contains C1-INH, can be used as an alternative.

Histamine H1 antagonists counter the effect of histamine and its response in the sensory nerve endings and the blood vessels. These histamines are more effective in stopping histamine response than in reversing it, as they are not very useful if histamine reaction has taken place. On the other hand, histamine H2 antagonists are reversible competitive blockers of histamine at the H2 receptors.

Treatment for Angioedema

You can get urine and blood tested in order to determine whether you have angioedema. If the results are positive, it can be cured with certain therapies or antihistamines. If you experience difficulty in breathing, get some fresh air and take long, slow breaths. If the problem persists or worsens, consult a doctor. The most important thing is avoiding any other drugs when you are suffering from angioedema.

Acquired Angioedema Treatment

Epinephrine has been very successful in cases of acquired angioedema. Furthermore, in acquired angioedema, antifibrinolytics, such as tranexamic acid, hereditary angioedema types I and II, and non-histaminergic angioedema may be of use. Cinnarizine has also been proven to be useful, especially in patients with liver problems, as it blocks the formation of C4.

How To Stay Safe From Urticaria – Some Simple Tips?

It is a fact that urticaria treatment can be expensive and time consuming, though there are some cheap herbal products which can bring quick results. But the question is, why should one suffer from urticaria in the first place? You must have heard that prevention is better than cure, so here are some simple tips that can help you stay safe from urticaria.

If you have a history of hereditary urticaria e.g. physical urticaria in your family, do not wait for the symptoms to appear, rather you must be proactive. Consult a qualified doctor for diagnosis because you may have a deficiency of C1 inhibitors which can be the cause of hereditary angioedema. People allergic to certain items or foods must avoid them. Last but not least, learn more about the disease as knowledge is power and with more power you can defeat urticaria.

But what if you already have urticaria and the itching is beyond tolerance? Read my post next week and find out the best solution.

Myths and Facts about Urticaria?

The Internet and rapid development in medical science has made access to books and other materials extremely easy. Type keywords about your query in any search engine and you get a plethora of information about the desired subject. Still there are a lot of myths about urticaria because this is a rare disease with not a huge amount of information available.

Most people believe that urticaria treatment is impossible.  You will be amazed that there are some amazingly easy home remedies that can relieve your symptoms a lot.

People think that drugs or food allergies are the only causes of urticaria, however autoimmune, physical triggers and extreme temperature can also cause urticaria .

It is also believed that antihistamines are the perfect treatment even for chronic idiopathic urticaria, actually they only counter the effects of autoimmune histamine release, so you must treat the underlying causes for a proper cure.

These were the myths, come back again and you will learn some valuable facts about urticaria.

The Pathophysiology of Urticaria?

Pathophysiology is actually the study of changes of normal biochemical, mechanical, and physical functions, in the human body which are caused by a disease or any other abnormal syndrome.

This post will describe the pathophysiology of urticaria. You might think that this should be only useful for medical students or professionals but if you are understand it, you can go about urticaria treatment in a better way.

Urticaria is caused by the release of histamines, bradykinin, leukotriene C4, and some other vasoactive fluids by the mast cells (which are a part of our defense mechanism). This can involve capillary or membrane damage as well. When these fluids e.g. histamines are released into the dermis, the rashes of urticaria appear on the skin, which are itchy and usually red in color. Physical urticaria is usually caused by physical stimuli, whereas in chronic urticaria the causes are usually unknown.

Do not miss the next post upcoming week which has some great tips for avoiding urticaria.

What are the Differences and Similarities Between Urticaria and Hives?

To some people, it will be a surprise that urticaria and hives are the two names of one disease. Actually urticaria is the medical name, while hives is the commonly used name for red itchy wheals that can outbreak anywhere on your skin.

Similarly urticaria treatment or hives treatment are also the same. The most common and popular treatment is the intake of antihistamines. Actually antihistamines are drugs which counter the effect of histamine release by the mast cells. Mast cells are a part of the defense mechanism widespread in the human skin and when disturbed they release these fluids which result in itchy rashes and wheals which are usually red or pink in color.

If you want to read the similarities and differences between urticaria and dermographism, do not forget to read the next post due next week.

Urticaria and its Related Conditions?

Urticaria is a kind of disease which can include other symptoms, especially if the underlying causes are not cured properly. Today’s post will show the related conditions which can accompany urticaria and how they make urticaria treament harder.

The most feared and deadly related condition of urticaria is angioedema.  In angioedema there is  swelling instead of welts, which occurs deeper in the skin. The swelling usually occurs on the face: around the lips and eyes and that is why it is also called facial angioedema. If urticaria is accompanied by angioedema, it should be paid serious attention to, especially if it occurred in response to an allergen. Furthermore, angioedema can cause suffocation and threaten the life of the patient.

If you want to learn the pathophysiology of urticaria in simplest form, read my post next week.

Are you experiencing strange shaped and ill colored patches on your skin? This might be the result of an unusual skin rash known as urticaria. Rest assured that Urticaria Treatment can resolve your skin problems. This article describes all the different kinds of Urticaria Treatmentsand most of them can be tried at home.

Chronic Urticaria Treatment

In some cases, specific antihistamines, when used for urticaria treatment, may not have any effect on the patient. If this happens, you should try alternate antihistamines. However, to see the effect of an antihistamine, you should use it for at least two weeks continuously. Sometimes, the rashes may vanish upon using antihistamines and reappear after a time. This happens because people stop using antihistamines when the symptoms disappear. To prevent the rash and itching from appearing again, you should use antihistamines on a daily basis. Older antihistamines may cause drowsiness and should be taken before going to bed. However, modern ones don’t have this effect and can be used anytime.

Cholinergic Urticaria Treatment

For curing cholinergic urticaria, antihistamines that have cetirizine as a major component are very helpful.
Patients suffering from both cholinergic urticaria and cold urticaria may find that ketotifen is helpful.
Danazol elevates antichymotrypsin levels, therefore, patients can benefit from using it. Ultraviolet light has also been beneficial in some patients with cholinergic urticaria.

Idiopathic Urticaria Treatment

Second-generation antihistamines are considered to be the best choice for idiopathic urticaria treatment. These antihistamines include desloratadine, fexofenadine, levocetirizine, and loratadine.

Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria Treatment

Drinking nettle tea  is soothing to the throat when suffering from urticaria. This tea can be made by stirring 2 teaspoons of powdered nettles into a cup of hot water and adding honey. Fresh lemon juice can be used if honey is not available. Patients can apply calamine lotion to the affected area; however, the relief will be short term only. Patient can also apply aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil to the affected area of the skin twice a day. The itching may also be relieved by bathing or dipping the affected area in warm water containing 1/2 cup cornstarch and 1/2 cup baking soda.

Acquired Angioedema Treatment

Information about Acquired Angioedema Treatment?

Are you looking for a reliable acquired angioedema treatment? If yes, you have reached the right place. Acquired angioedema treatment is not as tricky as hereditary angioedema treatment and some minor cases may not need any treatment at all. However, chronic angioedema must be given proper attention and medical care.

The two most commonly used drugs for acquired angioedema treatment, besides certain histamines, are epinephrine and cinnarizine. However, for proper treatment a complete diagnosis after necessary tests and a doctor’s prescription is mandatory.

If you interested in reading more about acquired angioedema and Acquired Angioedema Treatment, read here for a detailed and comprehensive guide.

—-

Though acquired angioedema treatment is simpler than the hereditary angioedema treatment, it should be carried out with extra caution. As you know, angioedema can be deadly, so the first aim of therapeutic treatment should be to avoid the triggers. Recurring angioedema can result in certain disabilities; therefore, treatment must be taken seriously.

Whenever you seek acquired angioedema treatment, the doctor you consult with will perform certain necessary tests, such as a urine test or blood test, which will reveal the causes and triggers of the disease. The patient must avoid these factors as well as any other drug during treatment.

Epinephrine has proved to be a life-saving drug in the case of acquired angioedema. Cinnarizine is also useful in many cases, as it prevents the formation of C4 and it can be used by patients who are also suffering from liver disease and cannot ingest androgens. Laryngeal edema is considered the primary culprit when it comes to fatalities caused by angioedema. Therefore, plasma-derived C1-INH can be used to regress laryngeal edema in people suffering from acquired angioedema. This approach has also been successful in hereditary angioedema cases.

Acquired Angioedema

Acquired angioedema usually has some association with hives (urticaria), and both of them are similar in evaluation and management. Acquired angioedema usually occurs in people over 40 due to autoimmune reasons and certain allergies, which may cause C1 inhibitor’s (C1-INH) deficiency.

Acquired angioedema may reappear at impulsive intervals. It normally lasts two to five days in the shape of swelling on the eyes, lips, hands, feet, and genitals, etc. Some patients may also suffer from severe abdominal pain due to swelling in the abdomen. If the swelling occurs on the upper reparatory tract, it is an alarming situation and can lead to death; therefore, patients should seek prompt medical attention.

Vitamins For Hives: An Alternative To Conventional Treatment

Taking a range of nutrients, including vitamins, for hives has been described as one effective way to help ease the symptoms of the condition.

One can review medical studies for evidence of the role that vitamins can play in resolving hives. Alternatively, one can visit online discussion boards and forums for anecdotes of the relief that patients have gotten from taking vitamins for hives.

Examples Involving the Use of Vitamins for Hives Treatment

In a 1952 study on epinephrine precursors and the control of allergies, patients were given an amino acid, L-tyrosine, in combination with vitamin B6 and niacinamide (also known as vitamin B3). The targeted illnesses were all allergy-related and included hives, hay fever, allergic headaches and dermatitis (which was caused by poison oak). The combination of nutrients given in the study (in specified doses) gave the patients much relief from their symptoms. It was noted that each nutrient, when given to the patients in isolation from the other nutrients, did not give them relief from their symptoms.

Other forms of nutritional support have been given to patients suffering from hives. Vitamins and other nutrients have been combined in a mixture known as Myer’s cocktail, which consists of predetermined proportions of Magnesium, Calcium, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C. Using this combination of minerals and vitamins for hives treatment has given patients relief from their symptoms. Myer’s cocktail consists of nutrients that are often recognized to be deficient in the general population and whose deficiencies are implicated in the development of many diseases.

Another possible nutritional remedy involves taking single vitamins for hives. For instance some patients take high doses of Vitamin C when stricken by hives. Vitamin C works by ultimately lowering their bodily levels of histamine. In this way, the patients can find relief from their symptoms. Other patients receive regular injections of Vitamin B12. This form of vitamin therapy results in a drop in the number and severity of hives attacks to which the patients succumb. Vitamin D, specifically in the form of Vitamin D2, is also taken in high doses by some hives patients. It is said to work well on solar hives. As for vitamin E, some apply oils containing it to their affected skin and, in this way, get some relief from the discomfort.

Is It Possible to Get Hives from Vitamins?

Vitamins clearly play an important role in the treatment of hives. But is the opposite possible? Can vitamins cause hives? It is certainly possible for a patient to get hives from vitamins. On rare occasions, patients can develop direct allergies to vitamin molecules. It is, however, more likely for them to develop allergies to some of the non-active ingredients of the vitamin supplements they ingest. These might include artificial sweeteners, food coloring and other compounds.

Itchy Dots on Skin – Topical Cream

Itchy dots on skin can be irritating and unsightly. Regardless of the cause, of which there are many, it is very important not to scratch the dots to prevent cuts, infection, and the spread of the bumps. There are a number of over the counter remedies that can help relieve the itching and inflammation. Calamine lotion is one of the most trusted remedies (http://www.medicinenet.com/calamine_lotion-topical/article.htm). The lotion is applied directly to the skin and is gentle to enough to use on children. Topical creams containing hydrocortisone are also shown to relieve itching.

Hard Itchy Bumps – Oral Antihistamines

To aid with severely itchy dots on skin oral antihistamines can provide relief. Blocking the body’s histamine reaction that causes the itching, oral antihistamines tend to have longer-lasting effects. Benedryl is a common antihistamine sold in most drugstores however, drowsiness is a considerable side effect. Claritin (loratadine) is another antihistamine used for general allergy symptoms as well as chronic skin irritation. A prescription medication, loratadine has greater side effects including uneven heart rate, seizures, jaundice, and feeling light headed.  As with all oral drug therapies, it is important to check the label for dosage information for children and infants before administering it.

Itchy Dots on Skin – Natural Remedies

Taking cooling soaks and baths can help to alleviate the inflammation and heat caused by irritated skin. Using warm or cool water, pour one cup of baking soda and one cup of cornstarch into the water allowing them to dissolve, soaking for 10 minutes or until the skin begins to feel less itchy. Milk baths have also been found to help with itching dots on skin. If the effected area is small, apply milk directly to the skin or on a towel. A natural compliment to bathing is the application of aloe vera. Aloe vera has natural anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibiotic properties and can be applied directly from the plant. If you have a fresh plant cut a leaf length wise, smearing the gooey inner part on the skin. If you prefer you can also put the plant in the freezer first for a cooling effect. For those without an aloe vera plant, the extract can be found in drugstores and is usually stocked near sunscreen. A paste made of baking soda and water can also be applied to the skin as can a paste made from tumeric and milk left on the skin for 10 minutes. Essential oils are an excellent way to relieve dry skin and rashes. A mix of nut oil, neem oil, and tea tree oil can reduce itching while lavender and rosemary oils are soothing.

Red Itchy Spots on Skin

Often, red itchy spots on skin are caused by an allergic reaction either through direct contact on the skin or ingestion of an allergen. The red itchy spots tend to appear rapidly after contact and can usually be treated with a topic hydrocortisone cream and/or an antihistamine pill. However, red itchy spots on skin can be an indicator of other skin disorders, infections, and illnesses. If red itchy spots on skin become extremely bothersome or do not clear within a couple of days it is wise to contact your physician for a consultation and diagnosis.

Red Itchy Spot – Chicken Pox

Chicken pox is an infection caused by the varicella virus (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chickenpox/DS00053). While there is a vaccine for chicken pox people, especially children, still contract the virus with varying degrees of severity. Once a person is infected the virus is highly contagious and is transmitted easily through contact with infected individuals. Fortunately, the vaccine is safe and effective and those who have already caught the virus are immune from further infection. Symptoms of infection include the appearance of red itchy spots on skin on the face, neck, scalp, chest, and back. It is important not to scratch chicken pox spots, as in their second stage they become blisters that burst and form a crust. The third and final stage is the scabbing of the burst blisters, taking several days to heal. Other symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, headache, dry cough, and malaise. It can take up to 48 hours for spots to appear though the patient is contagious during this time and until the blisters crust over. It is very important to make an appointment with a doctor to appropriately diagnose chicken pox. While usually mild, sever cases include the formation of lesions in the throat, eyes, mucous membranes of the urethra, anus, and vagina, and sometimes disorientation, rapid heartbeat, tremors, vomiting, shortness of breath, and a fever higher than 103˚ F.

Red Itchy Spot – Chicken Pox Treatment

It is recommended that pregnant women who have never had chicken pox receive a vaccine against the virus as contraction of the virus during pregnancy can pose significant and sometimes life-threatening complications to the baby. In healthy individuals the virus is allowed to “run its course” without the use of drug treatment. For those who are at high risk of complications medications may be prescribed to shorten the duration of the infection. Common medications prescribed for children in these cases are acyclovir (Zovirax) or immune globulin intravenous (IGIV). It is important never to give aspirin to a child or adult with chicken pox as it can cause Reye’s syndrome.

Is There a PUPPS Rush Treatment?

PUPPS is an irritating and itchy skin condition that can develop in pregnant women, mostly occurring in the third trimester though sometimes sooner. While there is not a singular PUPPS rush treatment there are several remedies and methods that can provide relief to expectant mothers. Because the exact cause of PUPPS is unknown, doctors are only able to address the symptoms, causing the effectiveness of a PUPPS rush treatment to vary. PUPPS ranges in severity and should be treated on a case-by-case basis. Women who develop rashes during pregnancy should be examined by their doctors, as there are several skin conditions and disorders that become health threats to mother and child.

PUPPS Rush Treatment – Over-the-counter and Prescribed Treatment

Depending on the severity, women who are diagnosed with PUPPS can be given a number of different remedies. The most basic is the use of over-the-counter anti-histamines to help control the inflammation and histamine reaction. A&D ointment (commonly used for diaper rash) has been found to be highly effective. Anti-histamines tend to be mildly effective and a topical corticosteroid cream is typically administered as well. Class I or II corticosteroids such as Fuonex, Lidex, or Deltasone are commonly prescribed for PUPPS. In the most extreme cases an oral steroid may be prescribed. While the use of oral steroid therapy is considered safe late in pregnancy many women do not feel comfortable taking them. In such cases there are many homeopathic remedies that can alleviate the itching and stress caused by PUPPS.

PUPPS Rush Treatment – Homeopathic Remedies

Homeopathic remedies are a good alternative to chemical creams and lotions. First-hand advice can be indispensible when using homeopathic cures, making pregnancy forums a good place to search for cures. Many women swear by Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap (http://www.grandpabrands.com/). Women should use Grandpa’s Pine Tar soap in a cool shower two to three times a day using a lightly abrasive cloth such as a loofah or natural fibered sponge. The effects are reported to last for about four to five hours. Following the shower many women like to use a lotion such as Colloidal oatmeal or GoldBond cream to prevent the skin from drying. Pine Tar cream is also another option. Soy soap is another option for women who don’t like the smell of Grandpa’s soap.

Oatmeal baths also have a soothing anti-inflammatory effect though the results do not last long. Some women recommend milk baths or putting baking soda in bath water. Orally, many women swear by dandelion tea (made from the leaves) or dandelion root capsules. Others suggest taking omega fatty acids found in flax seed oil to nourish the skin.

Urticaria causes and treatment are not as easily discerned as you might think

It is easy to define what urticaria is and what prompts those raised and itchy splotches on the skin. But urticaria causes and treatment is not the same matter. Urticaria, or hives is, in short words, a hypersensitive reaction in the skin to a release of histamine. But what exactly are the urticaria causes and treatment.

Acute urticaria causes

Acute urticaria is simply an outbreak of hives that happens only once or twice, and in no case reoccurs over a period exceeding six weeks. Acute urticaria causes and treatment are the hardest to pin down. The outbreak often comes and goes before the patient ever gets to the doctor to look at it, therefore a cause cannot be anything other than a guess. And honestly, if you only have a short outbreak, the acute urticaria causes and treatment don’t even really matter, because treatment isn’t really needed for a condition that no longer exists and doesn’t come back.

Causes of chronic urticaria

What causes urticaria in chronic cases is much more difficult to answer than the chemical action that make the symptoms appear. There are both allergic and non-allergic causes. Some of the non-allergic chronic urticaria causes include:

  • Autoimmune related
  • Hormone triggers
  • Anxiety triggers
  • Exercise-related triggers
  • Temperature extremes
  • Solar exposure

Some urticaria is allergy related. Some of these may be:

  • Alcohol, codeine, cocaine, and other illicit drugs
  • Prescription and OTC drugs like NSAIDS, antihistamines, antibiotics, and vaccinations
  • Food allergies like dairy, wheat, shellfish, food additives, and proteins
  • Insect bites and/or infections
  • Certain perfumes and deodorants, and body powders

Urticaria causes and treatments are easy in the above examples. The causes are usually something the patient has just used or come in contact with and the treatment is to avoid those agents.

Urticaria causes and treatment in the homeopathy field

It is best to not start using antihistamines or cortisones if you can avoid it. They become almost habit forming in the sense that once started, if you stop using them the hives come back almost inevitably.

The alternative treatments attempt to treat urticaria at the immunological level. The idea is that treating the hives at the immunological level will take care of the underlying causes of urticaria instead of just treating the symptoms. When you do this, the symptoms never appear and in effect you are dealing with the urticaria causes and treatment at the same time without becoming the slave to a prescription or OTC medicine. The problem, whatever the cause, is an immunological problem and that is the way you should try to treat it.

How to Stop Itching From Hives

People who suffer from hives and their associated inconveniences are highly likely to appreciate information on how to stop itching from hives. Thus, it makes sense for them to read materials that describe home remedies for their hives and itching.

One of the basic tips on how to stop itching from hives involves taking it easy. It is well known that chronic hives in some people are triggered or exacerbated by stress. Thus, if these people allow their stress to get to them, they are likely to suffer the worst itching of their lives more often than they care to. If it is possible for them to eliminate the factors that provoke their stress, they should do so. If it is not possible, they should learn stress-management techniques and incorporate relaxing exercises and routines into their lifestyles. These can include yoga, meditation, prayer and some sports activities. Some forms of herbal tea can also be relaxing for some patients. They would obviously have to figure out what teas were best for them as each person is unique in biochemical terms.

Other tips on how to stop itching from hives involve the topical application of substances to the skin. These may include cortisone creams, a cream of tartar paste, oatmeal in one’s bath water and even plain, simple cold water in the shower. These can all help to minimize the itching associated with hives and make it manageable. Some people looking for more complete relief from their hives itching can take antihistamine medication instead.  By blocking the action of histamine on the skin, this medication reduces the symptoms associated with hives.

Urticaria Diet and Food

There are other ways for patients to figure out how to stop itching from hives. One of them involves consulting a hives specialist to find out what allergens trigger their hives in the first place. If their hives are triggered by certain foods, then identifying these foods and excluding them from their diets will eliminate their hives episodes and, naturally, the itching associated with those episodes.

They can also eat urticaria diets. These are diets designed to minimize hives in all those who suffer from them. They make the body less conducive to those biochemical reactions that trigger hives. Such diets exclude fermented food and food that contains high histamine levels. They also exclude foods with artificial coloring and foods that contain benzoates and chemicals such as BHA and BHT, which are food preservatives or additives.

Stress Related Hives – New Info – Click Here

Over the last few decades it has become more and more clear how stress and anxiety trigger, intensify, elongate hives outbreaks.  Stress related hives are a part of a ‘fight or flight’ response in the body.  In other words, when the body detects stress, the sympathetic nervous system is activated.  This mobilizes the body’s defenses by creating a physiological response.  In this case the body activates the opening of blood vessels, which results in redness or blotchiness of the skin, in other words stress related hives.

The moment a stressful situation is sensed by the brain, this involuntary bodily reaction occurs.  Stress related hives are most common in people who get extremely anxious in stress related situations, such as in social situations or performance evaluations.  Some people are so sensitive to stress, that they will break out in stress related hives even during casual conversations.

Possibly the worst part of stress related hives is that the anxiety that you feel about your hives breakout intensifies that redness and itching even more.  So, not only do you experience more physical discomfort, but your confidence, social appearance, and professional performance are also impacted as well.  The results can be devastating both personally and professionally (HivecTen.com, 2012).

 Preventing Stress Related Hives

MySensitiveSkinCare.com provides six tips to help you prevent hives which are caused by stress.  If stress causes hives, the website states, then it makes perfect sense to prevent hives outbreaks by reducing stress.  Try the following techniques:

  1. Exercise – Exercise naturally reduces stress, in fact it raises your endorphin levels which makes you feel great.

  1. Drink plenty of water – Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day to ensure your body functions at its best.

  1. Get ample sleep each night – Everything gets worse when you are tired, and if your body is not functioning at its best then stress is more likely.  Getting adequate rest gives you a better chance of thinking clearly and managing stress effectively.

  1. Eat a diet that is healthy and balanced – Sugars, fats, artificial flavors, and preservatives should be avoided.  Try to eat more natural products such as whole grains, vegetables, lean proteins, and fruits.

  1. Make a list – Making a list allows you to get things off your mind and onto paper.  As you check off each item, your stress level usually will fall.

  1. Give yourself time to relax – Give yourself permission to do things that you want sometimes, or take time to do things just because you want to, not because you have to.
